Own Your eCommerce ("we", "us", "our") designs and builds custom eCommerce websites. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit ownyourecommerce.com (the "site") or contact us.
Information we collect
Information you give us
When you fill in the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address, and anything you choose to tell us about your business, such as your website, current platform, rough revenue, and what you want built. Please don't send payment card numbers, passwords, or other sensitive information this way.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, the servers that host the site automatically log basic technical details when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and when you requested them. These logs are used to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Preferences saved on your device
The site saves your light or dark theme and your cookie choice in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device and aren't sent to us. Our Cookie Policy lists exactly what's stored.
Fonts
The site's fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address and browser details to Google when a page loads. Google's handling of that information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
How we use it
We use personal information to:
- reply to your inquiry and prepare estimates and proposals;
- provide, manage, and bill for services you hire us for;
- communicate with you about your project;
- keep the site and our systems secure and prevent spam and abuse;
- comply with the law and enforce our agreements.
We don't sell personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or add you to a marketing list without your permission.
How we share it
We share personal information only with:
- Service providers that help us run the business and may use it only to provide their service to us: Formspree, which delivers contact form messages to our inbox, and our website hosting and email providers.
- Professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, when needed.
- Authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or when it's needed to protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our clients, or others.
- A buyer or successor if our business is merged, acquired, or sold. This policy would continue to apply to your information.
Stores we build
When we build or maintain a store for a client, we may have access to personal information about that store's customers, such as order and shipping details. We use it only to do the work our client hired us for, under our agreement with them. The store's own privacy policy governs that information, so if you shop at a store we built, please contact the store directly.
How long we keep it
We keep inquiries for as long as we need them to reply and follow up, then delete them unless you become a client. Client records, such as proposals, contracts, and invoices, are kept for as long as our agreement and tax, accounting, and legal requirements need. Server logs are kept according to our hosting provider's standard settings.
Security
We protect personal information with reasonable safeguards, including encrypted HTTPS connections and access limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Our Security page has more detail.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct information that's inaccurate;
- have your information deleted;
- opt out of the sale of personal information or its use for targeted advertising (we do neither);
- not be treated differently for using these rights.
California residents. The California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the rights above. We collect identifiers (such as your name, email address, and IP address), commercial information (what you tell us about your business), and internet activity (basic server logs), for the purposes described in this policy. We don't sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined in the law.
Other US states. A growing number of states, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Texas, give residents similar rights, including the right to appeal if we decline a request. You can appeal by replying to our decision.
Outside the United States. We're based in the United States, and information you send us is processed and stored there. If you live somewhere with its own data protection laws, such as the EU or UK, you can use the contact details below to exercise your rights under those laws.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We don't track you across websites, so there's nothing for these browser signals to switch off. If we ever add optional analytics, we'll treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to confirm your identity first, usually by checking the email address we have on file. Where the law allows, you can have an authorized agent make a request for you. We'll respond within the time the law requires.
Children
The site is meant for businesses and isn't directed to children under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top, and if a change is significant, we'll say so on this page.
